Doing a Macbook Battery Replacement

The first thing that you need to do is determine how many times your battery has been charged. To do this turn your Macbook on and click on the Apple icon at the top left hand corner of the screen. There you need to click on the option that says about this Mac. Next, click on the option that says more info. This will open the Apple System Profiler. Then click on power. The cycle count will be provided under the section labeled Battery Information.

The battery should work fine for a minimum of 300 cycles. If you have a battery problem with Macbook computer that occurs within the 300 charge cycle limit, you can get a replacement battery from Apple. With proper battery care, a Macbook battery should retain approximately 80% of its original capacity following 300 complete discharge and charge cycles.

However, as with any other consumable item, eventually even the Apple Macbook battery will fail. Then it will have to be replaced and the replacement may be bought directly from Apple. You will get a warranty against defects in the manufacturing process for one year from the date that is was bought.

If you want to keep your Macbook’s battery functioning to full capacity, you need to calibrate at least every two months. People who don’t use their Macbook computers so often should calibrate their batteries once a month. This should lower the amount of times that you will need to replace the battery.

This is easy to do. All you have to do is plug in the MagSafe power adapter until the Macbook battery is completely charged when you will see a change in the light on the MagSafe connector. The battery icon on the menu bar of the Macbook will display that the battery is fully charged and the light will change to green.

Leave the power adapter attached and permit the fully charged battery to rest in this full state for the at least two hours. Then, remove the power adapter and leave the Macbook on until the battery is drained and it shows the battery low sign. Leave the Macbook on until it goes into sleep mode on its own.

Allow the Macbook to stay in the sleep state for the next five hours. You should check for a pulsing white light on the Macbook. When this light stops flashing you will know that the battery has been totally drained. Then again connect the power adapter and charge the battery totally again. After the battery has been charged thoroughly, the calibration procedure is complete. This calibration will reduce the amount of Macbook battery life problems in the future.
